Choosing an Auto Transport Company to Trust with Your Vehicle
There are a lot of different reasons why a vehicle may have to be transported and actually driving the vehicle is just not feasible. This can occur in long moves, employment transfers or relocations or when buying or selling vehicles online or through other state or national types of vehicle sales options. It can also happen when a person has more than one vehicle but both cars need to end up at the new location at approximately the same time. Since only one vehicle can be driven at a time, the others have to be moved using an auto transport company.

Many vehicle owners make the mistake of shopping around for an auto transport company based solely on price. While there is no doubt that price is important for most people, and there is often no benefit it going with a company that is way more expensive than the others, there is also little if any benefit in going with the cheapest quote either. Really low quotes on pricing for transport is most common with the carriers that are trying to win business back after problems, or with companies that are just starting out. Both of these are potential risks as companies with bad reputations have poor performance records and companies just starting out may not have the equipment, insurance and general knowledge needed to get your car safely to the new destination within the time frame and for the price quoted.

The second major mistake that many potential customers make is choosing a car transporter that promises very short delivery times, especially on long moves. These short delivery times may be quoted over the phone, but on the actual bill of lading document the driver will have the owner sign there is typically a window of delivery dates that will vary based on how far the vehicle is being moved. While it is possible that the driver may be there on the first possible delivery date, customers should not necessarily expect this to be their absolute drop off date. This is because the auto transport driver will have several vehicles to drop on route, not just yours.

Avoid auto transport services that tell you that they will allow your vehicle on the carrier if it is packed full of whatever household or garage items you may wish to transport. This is not allowed according to the Department of Transportation as only the vehicle can go on the carrier, not household or personal items in the vehicle. If the carrier is telling you that other items can go in the vehicle, they run the risk of possibly having those items seized should the carrier be stopped.

The company should have a proven track record in auto transport and should be willing to provide you with that information upon request. You can also ask about the insurance they carry to protect your vehicle in transport and how they notify you if there are any possible unforeseen delays or problems that arise while your vehicle is on their carrier.

Finally a great auto transport company should have a good record as a customer friendly service. Don't be fooled by testimonials and comments left on the companies website, go to the Better Business Bureau in your area and check into the record of any complaints that have been lodged against the company. You should also consider checking out information on independent consumer review websites, many which will include both positive and negative concerns that prior customers have expressed.
